What can we do about speeding?
17th of September, 2026
Firstly, residents should report speeding concerns on the Lancashire Constabulary Speed Concerns portal. This can be accessed online here. The police will then consider if a location requires mobile enforcement or Community Road Watch. They will then receive an individual speed concern reference number. Which you will be able to track progress of the speed concern and will get direct updates on the speeding concern from the police.
Lancashire County Council (LCC), will investigate reports of road safety concerns on its network. LCC will establish the average speeds at the given location, as well as the number of injury collisions recorded over the last five years. Where LCC identifies a speed concern, it will aim to raise drivers' awareness and educate them doing this through various temporary messaging and utilising a number of electronic speed monitoring devices. Additionally, if appropriate, LCC will consider road safety improvement schemes.
Residents should report regular incidents of nuisance or dangerous driving to the police, using either the non-emergency phone number, 101, or on the Lancashire Constabulary 'Do It Online' webpage, with a record of the registration numbers of the vehicles.
Residents can also submit dashcam or mobile device footage directly to the police via Operation SNAP. There is more information about this initiative online.
Residents may also benefit from the Lancashire Speed Toolkit. This provides examples of how residents can raise awareness of speeding or road safety issues in their local area, and is available online.
